What we're looking for
* Tertiary qualifications in Safety, risk management or related discipline - essential
* At least 3 years experience in mining, construction or other heavy industry - essential
* Drivers licence - essential
* Auditor qualification - desirable
* Training and Assessment Certification - desirable
* Sound knowledge of statutory rules and regulations of WHS, WHS (M+PS) and relevant Australian Standards.
* Sound computer skills (particularly in MS Office Suite) and high level of administrative skills.
* Act decisively and effectively to re-prioritise efforts in response to changing operational needs
* Ability to work in high pressure and competing priority/ambiguous environments for sustained periods including outside normal business hours
* Strong and ethical leader with good written and oral communication skills.
* Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise a dynamic workload within given timeframes.
* Strong planning and project management skills with ability to link practical outcomes back to schedule of planned activity to meet a desired level of operational performance
* Excellent time management skills without compromising standard, service, or quality.

The role
* Assist with the development and implementation of Safety Strategy and Systems to comply with legal & company requirements.
* Coordinate, manage and implement safety projects as they are assigned. Provide on the ground support for Safety projects and initiatives driven by other HST Team members.
* Develop and mentor team members -provide them with regular support, training and information.
* Coordinate the review of the Risk Register and ensure improvement plans are implemented where required.
* Coordinate the Catastrophic Hazard Program.
* Coordinate internal and external reporting requirements, maintaining both corporate and regulatory compliance.
* Participate in risk management processes across site and coach and mentor staff in the correct processes.
* Assist with the implementation of Principal Hazard Management Plans and Principal Control Plans.
* Contribute to the ongoing development, improvement and maintenance of all aspects of the SMS Management System including content, accessibility, accuracy and effectiveness.
* Develop, implement and maintain the assurance program.
* Lead by example, demonstrating behaviour which supports and articulates the direction and values of the company by consistently demonstrating safe behaviours.
* Demonstrate leadership with relevant HSEC, legal and other external requirements within area of responsibility.
* Assist the team to achieve the targets for health and safety, encourage team members to accept personal responsibility for workplace safety, quality of work, productivity and to make individual contributions to the team.
* Complete allocated targeted visible leadership tasks.
* Ensure that the Contractor Management System is followed for all contractors under your control and ensure that every contractor has the required skills and training to perform the task safely.
* Manage action completion.
* Ensure the training needs are effectively managed and are up to date.
* Respond to issues within your area of influence so as to minimise site exposure. Provide feedback to relevant personnel on actions taken to address the issues.
* Ensure that any potential or actual HSEC issue / non-conformance that impacts site safety performance is reported promptly to the Health, Safety & Training Manager with appropriate recommendations to address the issues / non-conformance.
* Participate in HSEC audits, Workplace Interactions, Planned Task Observations as scheduled and demonstrate Visible Leadership in accordance with the sites HSEC Strategies and Objectives.
