About the TeamOur Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. With management responsibility spanning across five states, our 8,500km rail network is used to transport bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a vast array of consumer items such as groceries, electrical goods and other items for both import and export markets.
The Operations teams work within several complex and challenging environments, including some of the busiest rail corridors in Australia to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable service delivery outcomes for its customers, stakeholders and the community.
About the OpportunityManage the provision of inspection, testing, maintenance and minor renewals activities to ensure the operational availability of the signalling infrastructure and operational safe working systems in compliance with engineering standards and specifications
Responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:
* Provide technical support and engineering guidance to signalling projects and signal maintenance teams.
* Perform and support asset inspections, checks and testing of signalling equipment in accordance with maintenance plans, standards, and special needs-based requirements.
* Diagnose signalling faults and provide technical support during critical incidents to minimise network disruption and maintain safety.
* Analyse signalling Event Reports, fault data, and performance trends, and implement remedial actions to address recurring or adverse outcomes.
* Provide engineering assurance to ensure signalling maintenance activities are delivered safely, consistently, and in compliance with ARTC, industry standards, and legislative requirements.
* Monitor the effectiveness of preventative maintenance programs and implement strategies to reduce signalling failures.
* Participate in root cause investigations and reporting of signalling asset failures and incidents, providing specialist signalling input.
* Prepare and review detailed engineering documentation, including investigation reports, work instructions, inspection reports, test plans, and technical presentations.
* Assist with the installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of new signalling equipment and upgrades to existing systems.
* Participate in signalling design reviews to ensure maintainability, compliance, and operational safety outcomes are achieved.
* Develop and support audit, inspection, and testing programs to ensure ongoing compliance with ARTC and statutory requirements.
* Participate in safety audits and assessments and support the timely close-out of corrective actions.
* Attend major incidents as nominated and in accordance with ARTC incident management plans.
* Provide technical advice to support the development of Maintenance Performance Metrics (MPM), Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP), and related submissions.
* Participate in projects and undertake other duties as reasonably required to support business objectives.
* Maintain currency with changes to ARTC standards, industry requirements, and relevant legislation.
* Promote a strong safety culture in accordance with ARTC Safety Management System (SMS), Work Health and Safety (WH&S), and Rail Safety legislation.
What do we want from you?Essential:
* Tertiary qualifications in engineering, and or relevant industry experience
ARTC Statement of Competency (Signals) or demonstrated ability to attain as per Signals Competency Assessment (EST
* Drivers Licence Class C
* Superior knowledge of signalling infrastructure and systems.
* Highly developed problem resolution and interpersonal skills.
* Experience in the management of safety.
* Demonstrated commercial acumen.
* Sound knowledge of standards for signalling infrastructure including the railway Code of Practice.
* Knowledge of Work, Health and Safety principles and relevant rail safety legislation.
* Eligibility for Corporate Membership of the Institute of Engineers or the Institute of Railway Signal Engineers.
* Significant experience in signalling maintenance management.
* Experience in the administration and management of maintenance and minor renewals projects.
* Proven problem resolution and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Proven ability to manage staff.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of auditing techniques.
* Up-to-date knowledge of latest signalling technologies.
