Since 1980, Palmerston has been a leader in AOD support across WA, helping people improve their wellbeing. We offer specialised services in alcohol and other drug treatment, mental health, and wellbeing, through counselling, group support, residential rehabilitation, and education—reaching communities across the Perth metro, Peel, Southwest, and Great Southern regions.
The Perth branch is seeking a motivated individual with experience and qualifications within the alcohol and other drug field, who thrives in a dynamic organisation.
This full time (38 hours per week) position will have a treatment and prevention focus providing culturally secure counselling and education with the aim of reducing harm associated with alcohol and other drug use, in a supportive, collaborative and outcomes driven.
As the Counsellor/Educator your duties will be as follows but no limited to:
* Provide assessment for drug and alcohol, counselling and referral into services for consumers.
* Work collaboratively with clients to identify their needs, set goals and develop client care plans.
* Provide support to consumers in vocational and educational areas and coordinate with relevant services to develop plans to help achieve their goals
* Understand the challenges that may be impacting the life and health of individuals, their families, friends and the wider community due to alcohol and other drug dependency and provide culturally secure counselling and education and other relevant support mechanisms as required
* Use evidence-based methods to identify and change thinking and behavior patterns
* Provide support to other service providers to manage consumers with alcohol and other drug problems through shared case management and consultation.
* Develop networks, participate in community projects and provide support to local committees and other community groups.
* Provide training and education to other service providers and community groups.
* Participate in prevention and community development activities as directed.
* Facilitate educational and therapeutic group sessions.
* Participate in ongoing review and assessment of consumer progress.
* Maintain accurate clinical records including care plans, case notes and evaluations.
Selection Criteria
Tertiary or equivalent or relevant qualifications in social, behavioural or health sciences.
* Minimum 2 years' experience in the relevant field
* Demonstrated and well developed assessment and counselling skills.
* Experience in developing and delivering education and training programs.
* Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team. Knowledge of alcohol and drug issues.
* Well developed oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to establish relationships effectively with a range of people from culturally and linguistically (CALD) diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in a respectful and culturally secure way .
