Primary objective
Provide business support, advice and expertise particularly in financial management activities for the Fisheries Division. This
includes, but is not limited to, budget development, data preparation and analysis, and financial reconciliation processes.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in the development of divisional financial budgets and support cost centre Managers to make effective
management decisions that meet financial obligations.
2. Monitor expenditure and revenue, examine budgetary trends and prepare estimates. Identify and explain variances and
explore corrective measures.
3. Contribute to financial acquittals within specified timelines.
4. Assist with management of contracts, grants, procurement, human resource and workforce planning activities, prepare
reports and ad hoc briefs.
5. The role also maintains and promotes internal controls and compliance with financial reporting obligations under relevant
legislation and may be required to provide supervision and direction to support staff.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience and working knowledge in managing complex financial workflows and budgeting processes
with contemporary knowledge of accounting and financial principles, practices and standards.
2. High level analytical skills and ability to extract and interrogate financial data to provide comprehensive and accurate
recommendations and advice to financial and non-financial stakeholders.
3. Proven ability to meet deadlines, deliver outcomes and respond to requests in a timely manner with high attention to
detail.
4. Demonstrated reliability, strong work ethic, ability to participate and contribute as part of a team, follow directions,
build and maintain effective networks and collaborative partnerships.
5. Well-developed competency in the use of accounting packages, spreadsheets, databases, and report generation.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications and/or related experience in accounting, finance, business or related discipline.
2. Sound experience in public finance, government budgetary procedures and accounting practices within the public
sector, including accrual accounting.
