About the Role
We are vertically integrating all aspects of vehicle motion systems and control to enable innovation in next generation electric vehicles. As a Staff Systems Engineer, you will own and drive system definition, architecture, and requirements for key features including the primary torque path, safety torque path, yaw control, and braking control. Your work will directly impact how we develop and deliver safety critical software by enabling high velocity, quality, and robustness throughout system development.
Responsibilities
* Define and own system level functional and non functional requirements for propulsion and chassis features, including acceleration control, torque blending, regenerative braking, and stability functions
* Architect software and electrical interfaces between motion control modules, ECUs, sensors, and actuators
* Develop logical and physical system models, interface definitions, and configuration control in collaboration with software and hardware teams
* Drive development of component level specifications for actuators and sensors used in propulsion and chassis systems, including signal behavior, performance requirements, and diagnostic capabilities
* Guide implementation feasibility and system behavior across the V cycle, from concept through calibration, integration, and validation
* Define item definitions, safety goals, and functional safety concepts for propulsion and chassis control systems in accordance with ISO 26262
* Lead or contribute to hazard analysis and risk assessments (HARA)
* Define and maintain technical safety requirements, including diagnostic coverage and safety mechanisms
* Drive development of safety architecture, including fault detection, limp home modes, and redundancy strategies
* Lead system level trade studies across performance, cost, and timing dimensions
* Support creation of safety cases and ASIL decomposition strategies
Coordinate cross functional issue triage and root cause analysis during development, test, and vehicle integration phases
Qualifications
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
* 10+ years of experience in automotive systems engineering or controls development, with a focus on propulsion or chassis domains
* Proven experience developing system level requirements and architectures for safety critical vehicle functions
* Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, torque path architecture, braking systems, and control feature interactions
* Experience working across functional domains (software, EE, validation, calibration) to align interface definitions and system behavior
* Familiarity with system modeling, signal definition, and traceability tools (e.g., SysML, DOORS, Polarion)
