* Level B, $118,481 - $140,567 p.a., plus up to 17% employer superannuation
* Full-time (36.25 hours per week), fixed-term appointment until June 2027

The Opportunity

Join a high-impact research program supporting a United States Navy project focused on understanding and preventing dysfunctional behaviour through a systems thinking approach. This role will apply advanced systems thinking methods to uncover system-wide drivers of incident behaviour and develop a contributory factor classification framework to improve future reporting and analysis of incidents. You will take a leading role in the day-to-day management of research activities under the guidance of senior staff, while also contributing to the design, scoping, data collection, analysis, and publication of related research projects. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of applied research, with mentoring and training provided in specialist Human Factors and Systems Thinking methodologies.

You will

* Conduct innovative research: take the lead in designing and conducting innovative research projects aligned with your expertise and UniSC's research priorities. Employ rigorous methodologies and stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field.
* Publish research findings: disseminate research findings through high-impact publications in reputable journals, conferences, and other scholarly outlets. Contribute to UniSC's reputation as a leader in cutting-edge research.
* Collaborate with research team: engage in collaborative research efforts with other members of the research team, fostering a supportive and productive research environment. Contribute your expertise and knowledge to interdisciplinary projects.
* Secure research funding: actively participate in securing research grants and funding opportunities to support your research projects. Demonstrate the potential impact of your research to attract external funding.
* Contribute to research impact: communicate and present research outcomes to various stakeholders, including academic peers, policymakers, and the public. Demonstrate how your research contributes to addressing real-world challenges and has a broader societal impact.

About you

You're a collaborative team player with experience working across multidisciplinary environments, and you bring a positive, collegial approach to every interaction. Confident in managing large datasets, you combine technical skill with strong interpersonal qualities, contributing to an inclusive academic culture that fosters engagement, achievement, and success for both staff and students.

You will possess

* Completion of a doctoral qualification in psychology, social sciences or a related field relevant to Human Factors and Ergonomics, with significant research experience evidenced by publications in quality journals of national/international standing.
* Quality and trajectory of the applicant's track record relative to opportunity, including:
o Refereed publications in psychology, social sciences or a related field relevant to Human Factors and Ergonomics. Applicants must clearly identify their contribution as distinct from other contributors and provide evidence of the quality of the output (impact factor, citations etc).
o Grant funding (internal and external) awarded or sought over the last five years. Applicants must clearly identify their contribution as distinct from other contributors.
o Esteem measures (e.g. invitations to present research findings, prizes and awards, committee/board memberships).
o Outreach / research translation activities (including engagement with external partners).
o Supervision of research students including honours and higher degree by research students.
* Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting research studies, including recruiting and liaising with participants.
* Experience of working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
* Sound knowledge and skills in managing large data sets and conducting quantitative as well as qualitative analyses using software tools such as SPSS, R, NVIVO and Vensim.
* Knowledge and skills in contemporary theories, concepts and research methodologies relevant to Human Factors and Ergonomics and safety science, including specifically Rasmussen's risk management framework, ActorMap, AcciMap, STAMP, and Causal Loop Diagrams (CLD).

Desirable

* A track record in mental health and / or dysfunctional behaviour-related research.
