Data Scientist Role Overview
This role involves contributing to the development and enhancement of real-time analytics and machine learning solutions that support the operation and analysis of Australia's electricity grid.
* Key Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain data pipelines and automation scripts to support control room applications.
* Cleanse and transform historical and real-time data for machine learning model training and evaluation.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate multiple data sources and build labelled datasets for power system event analysis.
* Contribute to the uplift of alarm management capabilities and other initiatives under the Operations Technology Program.
* Support testing and deployment of applications, as well as creation of synthetic data in the Energy Management System (EMS) software's digital twin simulation environment (DTS).
* Assist in maintaining a knowledge base of ML techniques mapped to Power System use cases and contribute to the internal analytics forums.
* Assist in maintaining commonly shared data structures such as the graph network format of power systems network topology and support the evolution of schemas such as shared Taxonomy and Ontology representations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* Tertiary qualifications in Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
* Experience with Python and relevant libraries for data science and machine learning.
* Understanding of electrical power systems and transmission networks (flexible).
* Familiarity with data cleansing, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques.
* Ability to work with time-series data and correlate events across multiple systems.
* Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Exposure to software development practices including version control and automated testing.
