To help with this next chapter, we're looking for a dynamic, multi-talented and highly-skilled multimedia editor to join the Crikey team, someone who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom and loves bringing stories to life across multiple formats as we delve further into audiovisual offerings for our smart and curious readers. This is a hands‐on role for a creative editor who combines precision with energy, someone who can sharpen copy, elevate storytelling, and make content shine across text, audio, video, and digital platforms.
You'll collaborate with journalists, editors and audience specialists to sub and edit stories, optimize SEO, produce engaging multimedia content, support newsletters and edit our podcast, all while ensuring our output is accurate, engaging and compelling for Crikey's audience.
What you'll be doing
* Editing and producing Crikey's newsletters, articles, podcasts, and fast‐turnaround multimedia content
* Sub‐editing, fact checking and polishing content across text, audio, video, and digital formats, ensuring accuracy, style, and high editorial standards
* Producing compelling video and audio content for use across social media platforms and on site
* Collaborating with journalists, producers, and freelancers to manage workflow, streamline processes, and meet deadlines efficiently
* Using audience insights to sharpen storytelling, add context, and improve engagement across platforms
* Social media content production and reviewing copy to ensure it aligns with Crikey's voice and standards
* Assisting with comment moderation and maintaining quality and consistency in audience interactions
Skills and experience
You'll thrive in this role if you have:
* Multimedia capabilities stretching across audio, visual and text platforms
* Proficient in video editing software for creating polished video content
* Expertise in audio editing, including removing dead air, noise reduction, and volume leveling to ensure high‐quality sound
* Professional sub‐editing skills with meticulous attention to detail and excellent grammar, spelling, and writing standards
* Experience writing and scheduling social media posts, and experience working with WordPress
* A solid understanding of media law, basic SEO principles, and the ability to work under pressure to meet daily news deadlines

This is a full‐time hybrid role ideally based in Sydney or Melbourne. Salary to be commensurate with experience, and we encourage a wide range of candidates to apply for this role. Indicatively, we have banded the role a t $80,000 to $105,000 + superannuation.
