About the Role
We are seeking an experienced professional to fill a key position in our irrigation management team. As an Assistant Irrigation Manager, you will be responsible for assisting the Irrigation Manager in all aspects of managing the irrigation system.
* Implement irrigation schedules aligned with crop growth stages, soil conditions, and weather patterns, ensuring efficient water use and optimal crop yields.
* Monitor soil moisture levels using probes, sensors, and manual checks, and provide valuable insights to the Irrigation Manager.
* Support fertigation programmes by safely preparing, mixing, and applying nutrients and chemicals, promoting healthy plant growth and minimizing waste.
* Operate and maintain irrigation infrastructure including pumps, filters, valves, drip lines, and sprinklers, ensuring maximum efficiency and minimal downtime.
* Conduct routine inspections, carry out basic repairs, and escalate major faults promptly, maintaining the integrity of the irrigation system.
* Assist with scheduled maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maintain system reliability, reducing costs and environmental impact.
* Inspect crops and fields regularly to assess water distribution, plant health, and soil condition, identifying areas for improvement and optimization.
* Collect, record, and report irrigation and environmental data from moisture probes, telemetry, and weather stations, providing valuable insights for future decision-making.
* Ensure irrigation activities comply with water licensing, allocation, WHS, and environmental requirements, demonstrating commitment to sustainability and responsibility.
* Supervise and support seasonal irrigation staff, providing training, guidance, and promoting safe work practices, fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork.
This role requires strong technical knowledge of irrigation systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to water conservation and sustainable practices. The ideal candidate will be able to think critically, work collaboratively, and adapt quickly to changing situations.
Key Responsibilities:

Requirements:
* Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g. agriculture, horticulture, environmental science).
* Proven experience in irrigation management, preferably in a leadership or supervisory role.
* Strong technical knowledge of irrigation systems, including pumps, filters, valves, drip lines, and sprinklers.
* Excellent problem-solving skills, with ability to think critically and adapt quickly to changing situations.
