Engineering Technician – Building Services Supports – Cheltenham, VIC
Flexistrut Australia designs and manufactures support systems for building services — including pipe supports, seismic bracing, riser modules, and prefabricated plantroom frames.
We are seeking an Engineering Technician or Junior Engineer to join our Melbourne team to work from our Cheltenham office.
Remuneration is negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
About the Role
This position is ideal for a technically minded individual with some industry experience who enjoys producing detailed shop drawings, fabrication documentation, and material take-offs for building-services support systems. You will work closely with our engineers and drafters to produce drawings and materials schedules for support frames and prefabricated assemblies.
The ideal candidate will have a few years of practical experience in a similar engineering, drafting or fabrication environment — possibly with a trade or technician background — and is now looking to broaden their involvement in engineering design and manufacturing.
Duties and Responsibilities
Work closely with our Structural Engineers to draft working drawings, completing design documentation for commercial building services projects.
Prepare and detail plantroom and support frame drawings using CAD/Revit.
Produce fabrication drawings and material schedules for pipework frames and prefabricated assemblies including costings.
Read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
Use 2D and 3D modelling tools to prepare accurate shop and construction documentation.
Consult technical handbooks and tables to assist in design and detailing.
Work according to Australian construction standards and company design practices.
Participate in costing analysis in collaboration with our engineers and manufacturing team.
Self-manage workload to deliver projects on time and to quality expectations.
Communicate effectively with engineers, project managers and manufacturing staff.Keep abreast of current and emerging drafting and construction technologies.
Have a flexible, proactive approach, working well in a small, collaborative team environment.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering
Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology (Mechanical / Civil / Drafting)
Equivalent industry experience in engineering, fabrication, or drafting
Proficient with CAD or Revit
Strong attention to detail and understanding of how things are built
Practical mindset with good communication and teamwork skills
Organised, reliable, and keen to develop further design and engineering capability
