The team also contributes to legislative reform and policy development relating to criminal law, procedure and enforcement powers.The role As a Senior Lawyer (EL2), you will provide specialist legal advice on criminal investigations and prosecutions arising from ASIC's enforcement work. You will work closely with investigators and the CDPP on complex, high‐profile matters involving serious corporate and financial crime.You Will Be Required ToProvide expert legal advice to multi‐disciplinary investigation teams on criminal investigations, prosecutions and the use of ASIC's information‐gathering powersAdvise on the sufficiency of evidence and preparation of briefs of evidence for referral to the CDPPCollaborate closely with the CDPP on complex criminal prosecutions, including sentencing hearings and appealsAssist ASIC in‐house prosecutors with summary prosecutions conducted under CDPP consentConduct pre‐brief and early guilty plea negotiations to support timely and effective resolution of mattersDraft high‐quality legal advice and research on complex criminal law, evidentiary and procedural issuesContribute to the development and review of criminal law policies, practices and legislative reform initiativesManage a significant and complex caseload independently, with guidance from the Special Counsel – Criminal Law as requiredSupport capability building, innovation and continuous improvement within Legal ServicesMentor, coach and support junior lawyers and contribute to a positive, high‐performing team cultureAs an EL2, you are accountable for delivering high‐quality outcomes, exercising sound judgement, managing risk, and contributing to the leadership and capability of the Criminal Law Team.About You To succeed in this role, you will bring:Admission to practice in an Australian jurisdiction and eligibility to hold a Restricted Government Legal Practising CertificateSignificant experience in complex criminal investigations and enforcement matters, particularly white‐collar, corporate or financial crimeStrong knowledge of criminal law and procedure, including the rules of evidenceDemonstrated experience managing major criminal matters and engaging effectively with prosecuting authoritiesExcellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence and advise senior stakeholdersStrong judgement, resilience and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‐paced environmentHighly Desirable Experience Includes7–10 years' post‐admission legal experienceExperience as a Prosecutor, particularly in fraud or complex financial crime mattersExperience working with, or within, the CDPP or another prosecuting authorityExperience in a regulatory, enforcement or public sector environmentView the position description for more information or click 'apply' to start your application.
