Primary objective
Undertake basic technical procedural duties such as the labelling and dispensing, bulk distribution, recording and prepacking
of medicines with all dispensing, pre-packing and labelling work checked by a pharmacist or a medical officer, in accordance
with relevant legislation, prior to its release.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in dispensing prescriptions with the end product being checked by a pharmacist or doctor prior to being delivered

to the patient.
2. Undertake bulk distribution of pharmaceuticals and related items.
3. Ensure that accurate computer records are maintained for all transactions.
4. Ensure proper stock rotation end expiry date monitoring of pharmaceuticals.
5. Receive ordered pharmaceuticals into store, checking all relevant delivery notes and invoices and enters relevant data

into computer, and follows up discrepancies with supplier.
6. Assist in pre-packing medicines as required under the supervision of a pharmacist or medical officer.
7. Answer non-clinical questions relating to medicine supply, storage and availability that are directed to the pharmacy

department.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Sound arithmetic skills and sound knowledge and understanding of the basic units of metric measurement.
2. Previous experience with stock control and inventory management.
3. Ability to perform stock distribution duties utilising safe manual handling practices.
4. Typing or keyboard skills familiarity with Windows based computer programs.
5. Effective oral, written and telephone communication skills with an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse

cultures.
6. Proven capacity to work well with other colleagues in a team environment.

Desirable
1. Knowledge of generic and trade names of medicines.
2. Previous experience in a pharmacy environment including assisting in the computerised dispensing of prescriptions or

similar experience.
3. Formal qualification as a pharmacy assistant (Certificate III in a Health Service Assistant or equivalent).
4. Experience in an Australian hospital pharmacy environment.
