POSITION: Director of Athletics and Community Education
HOURS: 230 days per year
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
SALARY: Based on Experience
Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree or higher. Coaching and scheduling experience preferred.
Job Summary and Responsibilities:
1. Knowledge and experience with High School and Middle School athletic programs
2. Ability to interact successfully with people
3. Demonstrated organizational skills
4. Knowledge of MHSAA policies and procedures
5. Follows and maintains knowledge of District policies and procedures
6. Assumes responsibility for the scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events
7. Manages athletic events including set-up and clean-up, ensuring that events are safe
8. Supervises coaches in the cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms, including the maintenance of updated equipment
9. Arranges transportation for athletic participants
10. Develops and implements appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities, participants and observers
11. Leads the hiring process of all coaching positions and evaluates coaches by providing input to the principal(s)
12. Coordinates all athletics related services including rosters, bus requests, scheduling officials and coordinating with coaches
13. Facilitates meetings with coaches and staff
14. Maintains a safe environment for students at all times
15. Professionally represents the school and the district in interactions with parents, community, staff and students
16. Punctual, reliable and predictable attendance is required
17. Oversee financial operations of district athletic programs, recreation and enrichment programs and building use—taking in, recording and depositing payments, handing in pay requests for instructors, handling time cards for employees, paying referees and umpires, adjusting budgets as needed, fundraising/grant writing as needed.
18. Produce advertising materials for our programs and distribute them.
19. Responsible for community education programs and selecting volunteer coaches for each sport.
20. Oversee existing and create new recreation and/or enrichment programs to fill needs/desires in the community.
21. Oversee after school building use in the district, scheduling rooms, collecting use fees, handing out keys and codes, scheduling gyms and fields and troubleshooting for weekend and evening use by community members.
22. Maintain events calendar.
23. Monitor online newsletters for possible grants and apply for grants where appropriate.
24. Responsible for marketing the program and keeping the webpage up to date.
25. Responsible for setting up, organizing, and inputting data for software applications to support the program
26. Answer phones/emails/walk-in visitors to the Community Education office.
27. Maintain sports equipment, ordering as needed, distributing and collecting equipment to and from coaches.
28. Oversee maintenance of athletic fields
29. Oversee activity accounts for grants and fundraisers, collecting money, depositing money and disbursing money.
