Quality and Clinical Governance Unit at Monash Health

Led by the Chief Medical Officer and working closely with key stakeholders, the Quality & Clinical Governance Unit supports our Program leaders to embed strong clinical governance processes. This is critical to underpin the delivery of safe and effective care to every patient, every time. We have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled clinical professional to join our established Patient Safety Team in a full‑time, ongoing position.

About the Role

As a member of the Patient Safety team, the Quality Consultant applies their skills and expertise to ensure that reviews of Serious Adverse Patient Safety Events (SAPSEs), along with the principles of the Statutory Duty of Candour (SDC) process, are conducted in a timely, consistent and effective manner across Monash Health. This role contributes to improved clinical outcomes and an enhanced patient and family experience.

The Quality Consultant is responsible for:

* Ensuring that Serious Adverse Patient Safety Event (SAPSE) reviews are facilitated using a standardised and evidence‑based methodology.

* Working closely with the Programs and Patient Experience teams to support the timely and effective delivery of the Statutory Duty of Candour (SDC) process for all SAPSEs.

* Producing high‑level SAPSE review reports and Statutory Duty of Candour business documentation.

* Sharing learnings from SAPSE reviews across the organisation through appropriate governance forums, education sessions and other communication platforms.

* Building organisational capability by leading and participating in education and training related to the management of adverse patient safety events.

* Leading and contributing to quality improvement initiatives that promote a positive patient safety culture underpinned by psychological safety.

About You:

* Demonstrated clinical experience in an acute hospital setting; a minimum of five (5) years' experience is desirable.

* Demonstrated experience in the review and analysis of clinical incidents and patient safety outcomes.

* Highly developed written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate business and clinical reports appropriate to the purpose and audience.

* Highly developed interpersonal and engagement skills, with the ability to effectively liaise and collaborate with clinicians and staff at all levels of the organisation.

* A positive, flexible, and solutions‑focused approach to facilitating change and adopting new practices.

* Demonstrated ability to influence, motivate, and engage stakeholders to participate in review, improvement, and change initiatives.

* Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.

* Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple complex tasks concurrently across a range of functional areas.

* Demonstrated knowledge and application of clinical governance principles, including an understanding of a just and learning culture.

* Demonstrated ability to undertake continuous quality improvement activities using recognised improvement methodologies.

* Well‑developed presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to a broad range of audiences.

* Sound knowledge of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, or similar accreditation frameworks, is desirable.
