Job Description
An electrician installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and systems to ensure safe and reliable power in homes, businesses, and industrial facilities.
Core responsibilities
* Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, lighting, outlets, panels, and control systems according to technical diagrams and blueprints.
* Inspect electrical components such as circuit breakers, transformers, and wiring, then troubleshoot faults using testing devices and repair or replace defective parts.
* Plan and execute wiring layouts, connect circuits, and upgrade existing systems to meet new load, safety, or efficiency requirements.
Safety and compliance
* Follow national and local electrical codes and building regulations to prevent fire, shock, and other hazards.
* Perform routine preventive maintenance to reduce breakdowns, including checking insulation, tightening connections, and testing safety devices.
* Use appropriate tools, PPE, and lockout/tagout procedures to work safely on live or potentially energized systems.
Qualifications
Skills and requirements
* Strong understanding of electrical theory, circuitry, and the ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
