Aspiring OB‐GYN Trainee: Hands‐On Medical Practice

What you'll be doing

The Unaccredited Trainee in Obstetrics & Gynaecology will provide first‐line medical care to patients presenting to the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department, including assessment, investigation, treatment and referral for ongoing non‐inpatient care or, on consultation with consultant specialists, admission/transfer for inpatient care. Provision of evidence‐based and quality clinical care of individual patients in all domains of medical practice:

* Clinical examination
* Identify clinical problems and health opportunities
* Plan overall clinical care and health promotion
* Maintain concise but comprehensive, accurate, legible records of patient stats, progress notes and associated correspondence
* Manage administrative requirements of patient care including ensuring discharge summary and medico‐legal correspondence is completed with minimal delay
* Participate in roster including after‐hours and weekend cover as required
* Participate in educational activities
* Act in accordance with the Local Health District Values Charter and the NSW Health Code of Conduct
Where you'll be working

The Wagga Wagga Health Service has undergone a $431 million redevelopment, completed in 2021. It includes:

* Wagga Wagga Base Hospital – 325 bed referral hospital opened in 2017, supporting over 40,000 emergency presentations, 1,100 births and approximately 11,000 operations each year
* 24‐hour Emergency Department equipped with telehealth cameras to connect the team in Wagga Wagga with other specialists or GPs across the state through the Critical Care Advisory Service
* Purpose‐built Health Services Hub opened in 2021, linked to the Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, offering a range of services from a single site. It accommodates acute aged care inpatient beds, rehabilitation inpatient beds, an older persons mental inpatient unit, Hospital in the Home, expanded renal dialysis unit, expanded oral (dental) service, 60 clinic rooms and treatment spaces for allied health, outpatient, and community health services. The building also includes staff rooms, culinary areas, a new lecture theatre, conference rooms, clinical education and training spaces, and a library.
* Specialised Mental Health Unit opened in 2013, providing a large modern and comfortable facility. Community mental health services are co‐located on the campus.
Location

Wagga Wagga is the largest regional city in NSW with an urban population of over 60,000 residents, located on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River. It offers a variety of activities, restaurants, cafes, markets, wineries, galleries, museums, parks, recreational areas, cultural and sporting amenities, and extensive education options, including primary and secondary schools, TAFE NSW Riverina Institute, Charles Sturt University, The University of NSW Rural Clinical School and The University of Notre Dame – Rural Clinical School.

Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia
* High level skills in clinical care, supervision, mentoring and teaching; able to exercise moderate professional independence
* Demonstrated skills and commitment to improvements in clinical care, patient safety and risk management, and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams to achieve change
* High level interpersonal communication and team skills
* Effective communication skills for working within health care organisations and the outside community, including capacity to use electronic communications (e.g., electronic records) effectively
* Evidence of participation in continuing professional development
* Demonstrated commitment to broader service objectives of the public health system, including effective utilisation of resources and participation in activities beyond direct patient care
* At least three years' post‐graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent)
