Senior Domain Designer / Security Architect Location: Melbourne Type of role : Contract Duration: 12 months Clearance required: NV1 essential This role plays a key part in shaping and guiding the technology and security architecture within a classified and highly secure environment. The position is responsible for developing pragmatic, end-to-end solution architectures aligned with enterprise technology strategies and large-scale transformation initiatives. Working across multiple technology value streams, the successful candidate will provide architectural leadership across Business Support Systems (BSS) and collaborate closely with cross-functional delivery teams and operational technology stakeholders. The role contributes to the development of target reference architectures and transitional states, ensuring systems are designed with logical separation and secure-by-design principles. To be successful in this role you need to have experience working in the telecommunications industry. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain the security architecture roadmap aligned with enterprise architecture and organisational strategy within a classified environment. Define security domain principles, patterns, standards, and reference architectures. Ensure alignment with recognised security frameworks and regulatory requirements (e.g. PSPF, ISM, ISO 27001, IRAP, Essential Eight maturity targets). Provide security architecture leadership across major technology initiatives and transformation programs. Champion security-by-design principles across solution architecture and system changes. Review solution designs and technical changes to assess security impact and compliance with policies and best practices. Support the integration of identity, authentication, network security, data protection, and monitoring capabilities across the technology environment. Contribute to secure cloud architecture, integration with on-premise infrastructure, and implementation of modern security controls such as Zero Trust. Collaborate with enterprise architects, domain architects, delivery teams, and program leads to ensure alignment of architecture with both functional and non-functional business requirements. Contribute to architecture governance forums and support the continuous improvement of architectural practices, including mentoring where appropriate. Key Selection Criteria Essential Significant experience in architecture and solution design within the telecommunications sector, supporting complex digital products and services. Strong understanding of architecture frameworks and industry standards (e.g. TM Forum Open Digital Architecture, Secure-by-Design principles). Working knowledge of security frameworks and the ability to integrate security across IT and operational technology environments (e.g. PSPF, NIST, IRAP, DISP). Minimum NV1 Security Clearance required. Desirable Familiarity with telecommunications environments, including BSS, OSS, and network integration. Experience with data security and data protection controls, including Data Loss Prevention (DLP). Exposure to Zero Trust architecture design and implementation. Background in security engineering, SOC operations, or systems architecture. Experience working within government, defence, critical infrastructure, or highly regulated environments.
