About the role
Amentum seeks a Defence Capture Manager to lead the pursuit of major below‐the‐line service delivery opportunities in complex, highly technical environments. The role requires working closely with business development, technical, and proposal teams to craft persuasive capture strategies, drive proposal development, and secure client victories.
Responsibilities
* Own the end‐to‐end capture of major Defence opportunities, applying Shipley‐style disciplines.
* Lead the full capture lifecycle: opportunity qualification, Bid/No‐Bid recommendation, proposal submission, and post‐award debriefs.
* Develop and maintain written Capture Plans covering customer analysis, requirements, competitive assessment, win themes, and action plans.
* Collaborate with sales, delivery, and technical teams to shape customer perception, validate requirements, and mature solution, teaming, and pricing strategy before RFT release.
* Ensure the creation of compelling, compliant proposal content aligned with capture strategy.
* Coordinate inputs from subject matter experts across engineering, operations, commercial, supply chain, legal, and finance to meet Defence (including ASDEFCON) compliance requirements.
* Run structured colour‐team reviews (Black/Blue/Red/Gold) for capture and proposal phases, translating findings into concrete improvements.
* Maintain adherence to Defence solicitation and internal governance, covering risk management, commercial approvals, and margins.
* Coach and mentor bid and proposal team members in Shipley‐aligned capture and proposal best practices.
* Continuously improve capture and proposal artefacts, including opportunity qualification tools and content libraries.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Engineering, or a related discipline; or recognized industry qualifications (e.g., APMP).
* At least five years of capture and/or proposal management experience, preferably in Defence and complex technical service delivery.
* Demonstrated experience applying structured capture methodologies, including opportunity qualification, capture planning, win‐strategy development, and colour‐team reviews.
* Proven track record leading multiple concurrent capture and proposal activities on demanding schedules.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills focused on persuasive, customer‐focused messaging and win‐theme development.
* Strong understanding of compliance tools such as response and compliance matrices.
* Proficiency with CRM platforms (Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics) to manage pipelines and capture activities.
* Solid project management skills and familiarity with broader Shipley‐style proposal development best practices.
* Australian citizenship and NV1 security clearance as a minimum.
Flexible Working
Remote working is available; however, most days are expected to be spent in the Canberra office during critical proposal periods to promote teamwork and communication.
