Substation Physical Engineer
Job Summary
POWER Engineers is seeking a Substation Physical Engineer to join the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Augusta office, located in Hallowell, Maine. This role offers flexibility for a hybrid work environment; candidates must reside within commuting distance of the office.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Collaborate within a team to complete complex electrical utility substation designs, ensuring compliance with client standards.
* Perform detailed physical design of medium to extra-high voltage substations, including but not limited to:
o One-line diagrams
o Physical layouts
o Equipment selection
o General arrangement plans, sections, and elevations
o Control building design
o Cable and conduit plans
o Ground grid, lightning protection, yard lighting designs
o Material lists, system calculations, and sizing
o Preparation of engineering documentation such as RFIs, scope documents, specifications, and construction details
* Coordinate with CAD designers/drafters to develop drawing packages.
* Coordinate designs with other disciplines including Protection & Control, Structural, and Civil.
* Participate in quality assurance and quality control programs.
* Assist in engineering proposal development, project scheduling, and budget management.
Required Education/Experience
* Ability to function effectively as a Substation Physical Engineer in Augusta, Maine.
* BSEE or BSEET from an accredited university, preferably with a power option.
* Understanding of substation equipment and functions.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Excel, and Word.
* Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
* Legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Desired Education/Experience
* At least three years of experience in electric utility substation design.
* Ability to produce drawings from sketches, notes, vendor drawings, etc.
* Engineer Intern (EI) certification or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
