New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.
About the role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Long-Term Planning Engineer to join our Mine Engineering Services Team – Underground. Reporting to the Superintendent – Underground Engineering, you'll play a key role in shaping the long-term success of the Porgera operation by delivering practical and strategic mine plans that optimise the life of mine. Beyond your technical expertise, you'll have the opportunity to mentor and support junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help develop a strong, collaborative, and high-performing technical team.
You will model safety behaviours and coach and develop your team, working with your team to assess and manage risk. NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mines successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.
About you
As a key contributor to the underground mining operations, you will be responsible for delivering long-term mine plans that optimise the life of the asset while enabling the business to meet both short - and long-term objectives in safety, production, and cost. You will produce practical development and production designs based on new and updated geological resource models, and logically sequence and schedule mine areas to enhance overall production and economic outcomes.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing functional infrastructure designs to support the efficient execution of mining activities and schedules. You will review and implement mine design and planning standards, while also analysing operational data and performance metrics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. A key aspect of this role involves mentoring and supporting NPL team members, contributing to their professional growth and the overall capability of the technical team.
To be successful, you will bring a minimum of 10 years' experience in both bulk and narrow vein hard rock mining, including exposure to pastefill operations. You will have proven expertise in calculating life-of-mine (LOM) mining costs, cut-off grades, and reserves and resources. Membership with AusIMM (or an equivalent professional body) is required, along with advanced proficiency in Deswik and hands-on experience with stope optimisation programs. Strong report writing and presentation skills, as well as the ability to effectively manage technical consultants, are essential.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis either from Papua New Guinea or Australia/New Zealand with a 21/14 roster on a contract basis with a highly competitive remuneration package.
