LET'S EXPLORE THE ROLE

The Mt Bellenden Ker cable car in Far North Queensland is not a tourist attraction buta critical piece of infrastructure for workers accessing a telecommunications and broadcast facility on the summit.The cableway provides access to the summit, which is officially Australia's wettest place and experiences extreme weather, including cyclones and high heat.The operation is managed by BAI Communications, and carries workers to a broadcasting site, making it a stomach-dropping ride for those who use it daily.

The Cableway Operator will undertake the maintenance of all aspects of the Cableway infrastructure and ensure contiguous operations of the cableway as well as maintaining the asset condition to ensure the facility is running in the safest possible manner and in accordance with the relevant Australian and Canadian standards and codes of practice using best practice principles.

Key Responsibilities:

* Undertake the Cableway operators training program to become a competent cableway operator
* Undertake and obtain all other relevant training (working at heights, height rescue, medical, first aid, CPR, RF Awareness) prior to operating the cable car.
* Ensure the safety and wellbeing of passengers that travel on the Cableway, direct them as appropriate should an emergency arise.
* Undertake Cable car evacuation if the situation warrants it and work with and take direction from emergency response teams as required.
* Perform as a qualified rigger (or working towards this qualification) with a rescue at heights qualification and should be fully capable of performing work at heights in sometimes exposed locations on cableway Towers or the Cable Car itself
* Perform operational duties, maintenance, fault investigation and repair of the control and drive systems, including equipment located at the bottom station, the top station and inside the Cable Car itself.
* Ensure all maintenance activities including greasing the track and haul ropes, vibration and grease analyses, rope slips/load tests, NDT, corrosion control is completed as required and all detail is logged in the Maintenance and Operations logs.
* Undertake cyclone preparation of the cable car and top and bottom stations as required. Assist in the clamping of the track and haul ropes prior to incoming cyclones.
* Responsible for ensuring all pre-operational checks are completed prior to operation of the Cableway. The collecting and recording of all tests, maintenance activities and observations should be recorded in the Maintenance and Operations log. All faults or damage detected must be entered in the tracking Log and raised with the site supervisor.
* Ensure all processors around cableway operation are followed and if needed impose restrictions on the loading of the Cableway to suit any weather or wind conditions. Any concerns should be raised with the site supervisor for directions before allowing the car to operate.
* Any unique or abnormal Flora and Fauna observations noticed during car journeys are to be recorded in the Rainfall log for use by National Parks
* Carries out the various tests and maintenance checks set out on the Cableway Maintenance Schedule
* Maintains the car and ensures that the car landing area is clean and tidy and that there are no obstacles which may endanger or damage the car on approaching the station on the next trip. The bottom station loading area (around the scales) is to be kept clear of all obstructions
* Return all tools and equipment to their correct locations and ensure the car is clean at the end of each day, connect the car battery to the charger at the end of each day
* The Cableway Operator is responsible for the security of the transmitter buildings and Cableway facilities while visitors are present
* The Cableway Operator should comply to and make themselves familiar with the current standards associated to operating a cableway e.g. Australian standard AS 4722 and the Canadian standard Z98 for Passenger ropeways and passenger conveyors.

LET'S HEAR ABOUT YOU

* Have mechanical skills enabling maintenance works on all the various components of the Cableway
* Working knowledge of the O&M Procedures and Work Instructions pertaining to Operational use and employment at the Mt Bellenden-Ker Cableway
* Rigging qualified with experience, holding a High Risk Licence in Basic, Intermediate or advanced Rigging
* Comfortable working at heights and ideally hold a Working at Heights/Tower Rescue and/or cable car evacuation certificate
* Intermediate working knowledge of the Cableway to enable fault analysis of all components
* Mechanical and/or fitter & turner trade qualifications
* Hold an RF awareness certificate
* Hold a current White Card
* Holder of a current Senior First Aid Certificate
* Pass regular medical appraisals (fit to climb)
* Hold appropriate EWP, Forklift, Crane operator, mobile plant licences as required
