The ICE Network Engineer provides leadership in network design, deployment, maintenance, and operational support. The Lead Network Engineer is a key role within the organization, serving as a technical leader for Analysts and Engineers. The lead engineers are subject matter experts in parts of the network ecosystem, enabling them to handle complex issues. They are fully involved in project work, taking ownership of large network deployments from design through implementation, documentation, and support handover.
They possess extensive domain knowledge and advanced troubleshooting skills. The Lead Engineer also acts as an informal trainer to Analysts and Engineers, sharing knowledge and recovery tips to enhance team capabilities. All interactions with clients, colleagues, and vendors must be professional, helpful, and proactive.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, support, and maintain mixed vendor network infrastructure.
- Assist ICE staff with problem solving and escalation procedures.
- Understand and follow operational policies and procedures, promoting adherence.
- Provide technical expertise to ensure safe, effective, and efficient network changes.
- Assist in developing policies and procedures for maintaining network infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with other IT teams.
- Lead incident investigations, diagnosis, and service restoration, prioritizing incident resolution.
- Provide consultation on troubleshooting, design, onboarding, risk mitigation, and operational improvements within domain expertise.
- Act as an informal trainer to Level II staff, supporting their skill development.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation if required.
Knowledge and Experience
- Advanced knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, Arista, and other vendor equipment and configurations.
- Strong experience with routing protocols such as BGP, ISIS, OSPF, etc.
- Extensive experience in MPLS and Traffic Engineering.
- 10+ years of hands-on support and troubleshooting of networks.
- 6+ years of experience in designing and implementing complex networks.
- Understanding of network management, security, and monitoring.
- Excellent writing and documentation skills.
- Strong customer service attitude.
- Ability to operate effectively and professionally under pressure.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on financial and HFT networks.
- Strong experience with multicast in switched and routed networks.
- Expert-level network certifications such as CCIE, JNCIE, etc.
- Certifications in F5, Checkpoint, or Palo Alto.
- Automation and scripting experience.
- Unix/Linux system administration skills.
- Experience running and analyzing sniffer traces with deep TCP/IP understanding.
- Ability to grasp complex architectural concepts.
- In-depth hardware knowledge of switches and routers, including internal chipsets, TCAM, memory, buffering, and multicast replication.
- Master's degree in Computer Engineering or a related field is preferred but not required.
