**About the Role**:
The Hospital Outreach Post Suicidal Engagement Program (HOPE) was an initiative established by the Victorian state Government to provide assertive outreach to consumers following a suicidal crisis. GV Health HOPE has 2 sites and this position is located at the Seymour site. The team consists of both Clinical and Lived/Living Experience staff to provide support to consumers and their families/carers to improve the wellbeing of the individual and decrease suicidality for the person. A person
- centred approach is adopted by the team and the consumer can be engaged with HOPE for a up to 3 months.
This position is a dedicated position for Lived and Living Experience individuals who have been in a carer role. As a team member you will be working in collaboration with the clinical staff to provide support to consumers using your caring lived/living experience. This may involve providing Peer Support to carers/families, advocating for carers/families when required, assisting with linkages to other support services that the carer feels may be of benefit to them in their caring role. Training in Intentional Peer Support will be provided if this has not been completed as well as specific suicide intervention training.
- Lived/Living Experience of providing care to someone with a mental illness and an understanding of the public mental health system
- Understanding of boundary recognition that may occur in this role
- Awareness of specific carer supports available in the community
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to promote the Carer LLEW perspective within the team and organisation
- Ability to work in a community setting and within the broader service system
