About the Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion

Social justice is front and centre in UTS's vision and purpose; and a core component of its Strategic Plan, priorities and KPIs. This focus has led to the creation of a rich array of successful social justice, equity and diversity programs across the university. The Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion (CSJI) works in collaboration with the University, Faculties and central units to build equity, respect for diversity and social justice into our mainstream policies and practices, and to provide a work and study environment that is free from unlawful harassment and discrimination. We promote access and success for all students. CSJI is responsible for ensuring that student equity is embedded into the UTS culture and values. This work is delivered by the Centre's Student Equity Team. The Opportunity The Manager, Policy and Advocacy provides strategic and operational support to the Head of Equity Pathways, to help shape UTS' response to emerging policy trends in student equity, including potential actions that emerge from the Universities Accord process, facilitate knowledge sharing and practise internally between policy, management, and innovation in student equity and access across the UTS, including alignment of good practice and pedagogy relating to student equity in HE and support the Head of Equity Pathways to advance the policy advocacy through advising, campaigning and lobbying to increase pathways, access and participation for students underrepresented in higher education. The role has a major focus to lead Priority Student Success team, oversee management of Humanitarian Scholarship program and UTS Pasifika program development. The role will contribute to the development and strengthening of pathway partnerships, including identifying and advancing opportunities for collaboration with TAFE to expand access pathways into UTS for underrepresented student cohorts. About You You are an engaging leader and strategic planner with: • Substantial knowledge of the issues faced by disadvantaged communities in achieving access to and success in higher education• Significant experience in developing, implementing and evaluating creative equity and social justice policies and programs that bring systemic change, in the Secondary and/or Higher Education arena• Solid working knowledge of federal and NSW anti-discrimination legislation; knowledge and understanding of grievance resolution processes and principles, and the ability to undertake effective grievance handling• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including high level policy/report writing and negotiation skills and good presentation skills• Demonstrated ability to manage significant budgets and resources ethically and effectively and meet accountability and reporting requirements• Demonstrated experience in managing and developing staff from diverse backgrounds and building effective and collaborative teams

Remuneration

Base Salary Range: $140,965 - $147,678 (HEW 9) plus 17% superannuation UTS staff also benefit from a wide range of Employee Benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities. This role is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis. UTS supports flexible ways of working and offers hybrid working arrangements. Staff have the option to work from home as part of a balanced approach to flexibility, collaboration and team engagement.
