Hedland Senior High School (SHS), located in the Pilbara, is an Independent Public School catering for students from Year 7 to Year 12. The Role
Hedland SHS is seeking to appoint a passionate and supportive individual with experience in working with Aboriginal students to help students reach their potential academically, culturally, personally and socially.
Delivered in partnership with the Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation and industry and philanthropic sponsors, the Follow the Dream program supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with high aspirations throughout secondary education through individualised case management in the areas of academic acceleration, longitudinal subject selection, career and transition support. The program enables students to achieve secondary school graduation and successfully transition to post-school training and employment.
The role of the Program Coordinator involves identifying appropriate students for participation, case managing each student including monitoring and supporting their school progress, fostering a sense of belonging, working closely with parents, families and teachers to ensure student academic success and general wellbeing, providing students and families with subject advice and career guidance and information, arranging extra-curricular and academic enrichment activities, reporting and data analysis, and advocating for and supporting parents, students and other key stakeholders.
The Coordinator's support and case management will assist students to continue achieving excellent outcomes at school, including achievement of their WACE on completion of Year 12. Additionally, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Program Coordinator will work collaboratively to lead and support school wide initiatives in line with school priorities and build shared ownership and awareness of the program's vision and goals.
The successful applicant will ideally be resourceful, organised, collaborative and be able to identify needs of students. Additionally, they will show an understanding of the program intent, requirements, and an appreciation of issues regarding Aboriginal education and cultural perspectives and have experience in empowering students to pursue their aspirations.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Hedland Senior High School in 2025 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $4 677 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment

Eligibility

* be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* hold registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia
* obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
* consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
