Communications coordinator (sydney)

Sydney
Newington College
Posted: 26 September
Offer description

Excellent professional development opportunities with great staff benefits.
- Immerse yourself in a wide variety of projects across multiple platforms.
- Be a part of the College's exciting transition to co-education.

**About the Position**

A great opportunity has arisen for a full-time Communications Coordinator. This is a graduate-level position, suited to an enthusiastic self-starter looking to expand their experience in the communications and marketing industry.

If you're as happy creating engaging social content and proofing copy, as you are keeping finances on track and the team organised, you could be just the person we're looking for. The Communications Coordinator role blends creative thinking with attention to detail, a love for great content, and the ability to form a close relationship with deadlines and numerous stakeholders, while juggling multiple projects at once. The Communications office is a fun, busy environment - but we want you to have a life away from work, so overtime is rare.

We're looking for someone who loves working with words and images, knows a great story when they see it and understands how to tell it to our community on the right platforms. You'll understand the importance of brand and tradition, but if you have a excellent idea for something new or a better way of doing things, we want to hear it. You'll be a great communicator, writer, and team player and be accurate, fast, and cool-headed.

A relevant tertiary qualification in media, marketing, communications, publishing or similar education roles is preferred, while some experience working in a hands-on, fast-turnaround content-led environment will also be an advantage. You'll work both independently and as part of a team of seven people. The position reports to the Director of Communications and will commence ASAP.

**About You**

You will work with five other staff in our busy Communications department. To succeed in the role, you will have:

- Tertiary qualifications, related experience or other qualifications in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Media Studies, Journalism or a related discipline
- Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and platforms such as Jira, WordPress, Canva and Campaign Monitor
- Solid written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
- Strong proofreading and editing skills
- A basic understanding of social algorithms and SEO
- Intranet and website content management and maintenance knowledge/experience
- Sound interpersonal and professional presentation skills
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
- High energy levels, drive and enthusiasm and a team player
- Sound photography and video skills
- Strong time and project management skills
- The ability to take on a wide range of tasks, including updating our website, proofing articles and various collateral created by the department, writing articles for the website, College magazine and paid editorial, co-ordinating and photographing school events, assisting with the creating and implementation of a social, search and advertising strategy and managing invoices and purchase orders.
- Comfort communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, from students through to senior executives.
- Understanding and adhere to the College's Child Safeguarding policies and practices.
- A contribution to the continuous improvement of Child Safeguarding at Newington.

**About the College**

Newington College is a school bustling with opportunity and rigour. We aim to teach students to think critically, stretch their learning and approach life with curiosity, kindness and open-mindedness, and that also applies to everyone who works here - from the teachers and grounds staff to the finance and admissions teams.

What else sets us apart? We strive to create a culture underpinned by our diverse and inclusive care for our community - students, parents, carers, staff, alumni and neighbours - and by an appreciation of the importance of service. The College is supported by a strong sense of integrity, respect, fairness and responsibility. Collaboration and support are also key, so we ensure all staff have the resources available to make the most of every opportunity.

Founded in 1863 by the Uniting Church, the College has more than two thousand students across four vibrant campuses from our Early Learning Centre through to Year 12. In 2026, Newington will enter an exciting new phase as the College transitions to co-education starting with Kindergarten and Grade Five, becoming fully co-educational by 2033. Our students will enter a world that will require them to walk and work alongside all genders collaboratively, respectfully and empathetically as colleagues, employers, employees, partners, parents and friends. We want to ensure the College remains a vibrant, contemporary institution, in step with the society it is part of.
