The Role
As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality financial management and advice across DABS and specified entities. Working closely with the CFO and senior management team, you will ensure financial integrity, compliance, and strong client relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
* Overseeing financial reporting, compliance, and grant management for DABS and client entities.
* Leading and supervising finance team members to deliver high-quality services.
* Preparing budgets, financial reports, and analysis for management, boards, and stakeholders.
* Providing practical solutions to complex financial issues and streamlining systems and processes.
* Building and maintaining strong client relationships and contributing to business growth.
* Deputising for the CFO when required and participating in senior management decision-making.
About You
You're an experienced finance professional ready to take the next step in your career and contribute to an organisation that's growing and making a real difference. You'll bring:
* 3–5 years' experience as a Finance Manager, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality financial reporting, planning, and advice.
* Strong leadership skills, with the ability to guide, support and develop a small finance team while fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture.
* Experience working in the not-for-profit sector is highly regarded, though not essential.
* Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with boards, senior management, and stakeholders.
* A team player mindset — someone who can balance supporting colleagues with working alongside senior management to achieve strategic goals.
* A proactive, solution-focused approach with attention to detail and the drive to achieve results.
This role would suit someone who enjoys both the hands-on work of financial management and the opportunity to contribute strategically at a senior level.
Essential skills and qualifications:
* Qualified IPA, CA or CPA.
* Significant experience in financial planning, reporting, and control.
* Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing finance teams.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively at senior levels.
* Proven ability to analyse financial data, address complex issues, and provide practical solutions.
* Experience with computerised accounting systems and process optimisation.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Desirable experience and attributes:
* Experience working with Aboriginal people or a strong understanding of contemporary Indigenous issues.
* Proven ability to provide practical solutions to complex financial issues.
* Demonstrated capability to streamline processes and improve financial systems for efficiency.
* Experience managing compliance, grant acquittals, and working directly with auditors and regulators.
* Strong analytical skills, with the ability to deliver clear and insightful interpretation of financial data for stakeholders.
* Energetic, motivated, and willing to contribute to continuous improvement and organisational growth.
* Willingness to travel to remote communities from time to time with a team to present financial reports and assist with presentations.
