Offer description

Come shape the future of commerce built for passion with us!

At EQL, we're building tools for brands that don't just have customers—they have fans.

These are the high-stakes cultural moments where passion runs deep, but the experience has often been broken: sites crash, bots win, and real fans lose out. If you've ever tried to score Jordans, Taylor Swift tickets, or a footy final seat, you know the frustration. EQL is changing that. We're creating the world's first fair launch platform to help retailers manage demand, block bad actors, and deliver seamless experiences that give real fans a fair shot.

Backed by top VCs and angels, we're solving big, meaningful problems with smart tech and a bold, collaborative team. It's challenging and rewarding work, and we're building a culture where curious, kind, and ambitious people thrive. If you want to help us shape the future of fan-first commerce—even if you don't tick every box—we would love to talk.

The role

As a Senior Product Designer at EQL, you'll sit at the intersection of two very different user worlds — the operational rigour demanded by retail merchants, and the excitement and trust that keeps fans coming back.

You'll take real ownership here; uncovering fuzzy problems, staying accountable through to launch, and working shoulder-to-shoulder with product and engineering in a team that moves quickly. You're someone who finds ways to force multiply yourself with AI & tooling but importantly brings the ability to discern what's worth keeping.

Beyond the day-to-day, this is a role with genuine influence over how EQL thinks about design. You'll help define what great looks like, raise the standard of the work around you, and build a practice that holds together in a team that moves at pace.

What you'll do

* Bring a design lens to problem framing - using user empathy, experience mapping, and design thinking to reframe how the team understands challenges, uncover overlooked needs, and shape the direction of solutions before jumping to screens.
* Stay close to customer feedback and usage patterns, combining qualitative research, data analysis, and hypothesis-driven experimentation to continuously sharpen the team's understanding of where the experience can be improved - and know when you have enough signal to move vs. when you need more.
* Own complex design challenges end-to-end, from shaping product direction through to shipped solutions. Navigate ambiguity and make sound decisions with incomplete information, balancing user needs and experience quality against technical and commercial constraints - recognising that "good enough, shipped" often beats "perfect, delayed."
* Design for both sides of EQL's platform - crafting efficient, workflow-driven experiences for merchants (B2B) alongside compelling, trust-building moments for fans (B2C). Understand that great B2B design prioritises clarity, speed, and operational confidence over visual novelty.
* Bring deep craft expertise in visual and interaction design - not just to produce beautiful work, but to set quality standards and articulate why something works or doesn't. Your design eye is the quality bar, whether the work comes from you, the team, or a tool.
* Leverage AI design and prototyping tools as a natural part of your workflow to accelerate exploration and expand the solution space, while applying your craft judgment to ensure the output meets the standard, not just the brief.
* Shape and evolve EQL's design philosophy and culture while driving cross-functional alignment on user experience goals and product priorities - establishing the principles, taste, and point of view that guide decisions, and communicating them through visual storytelling and collaborative facilitation.
* Form strong opinions, loosely held - lead with conviction grounded in evidence and craft intuition, but stay genuinely open to feedback, iteration, and being wrong.
* Think in systems - ensuring the work you deliver is scalable, coherent, and consistent across the product, while bringing creative energy and care to how EQL shows up visually, pushing the quality of illustration, typography, and interaction with intention and personality.
* Mentor and support other designers, giving thoughtful critique rooted in clear design principles, sharing context, and guiding teammates through complexity and ambiguity.

Who we look for

We focus on hiring values-aligned people because we believe mindset matters as much as experience. Curiosity, drive, and a willingness to learn go a long way. Working at EQL means embracing ambiguity, being okay with imperfection, and playing bigger than we are as we solve tough problems together. If that sounds like it gives you energy and are excited to grow with us, we encourage you to apply—even if you're feeling unsure.

We believe you'll succeed in this role if you have:

* Extensive experience in product design within a startup or fast-paced software product environment, where you've shipped work that moved commercial metrics — not just looked good in a portfolio.
* Experience designing across B2B and B2C/consumer contexts with a fluency and range enough to operate in both modes.
* Excellent visual design skills with a refined understanding of typography, layout, colour, and interaction - and the ability to articulate the principles behind your decisions, not just demonstrate them.
* Demonstrated ability to proactively frame problems and make strategic design decisions, taking something from scoping a problem to delivering a solution independently.
* Active fluency with AI-augmented design tools and workflows - you use them to work faster and think bigger, and you have the craft judgment to know when the output isn't good enough.
* Experience developing or contributing to a design philosophy, design principles, or quality standards that guided a team's decision-making beyond just a style guide.
* Experience working closely with engineers and product managers to navigate the tension between desirable, feasible, and viable.
* Comfort with research and data, including the judgment to know when a quick guerrilla test is enough and when you need something more rigorous.
* Experience working with multiple stakeholders outside of Product & Engineering, making trade-offs, and maintaining alignment across competing priorities.

What we offer

Fairness is not just something for our fans and retailers - it's part of who we are which is why:

* We provide equity in EQL - we want our team to have skin in the game and to be as invested as we are in EQL's success. We want the people that will make EQL successful to share in that success
* We provide competitive compensation and evaluate the market to ensure that remains true.
* We provide a flexible work environment because we understand that everyone works differently and want to support our team to be their best
* We provide generous time off above and beyond what we are required to because we know that well-rested people make better decisions and are more engaged - when you thrive we thrive
* When you want to collaborate in person with other humans, we have a workplace that welcomes the whole team including their furry friends.

At EQL, diversity, equity, and inclusion are core to how we operate and grow. We're committed to building a workforce that values and supports every individual. We believe equality strengthens our culture and drives accountability in championing diverse voices. EQL is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, colour, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, marital or caregiving status, pregnancy, religion, political beliefs, or national origin.
