The Opportunity
Tasmania’s largest aged care provider has an opportunity for a Pastoral Carer (Chaplain) in our North Tasmanian Facility, Mt Esk and Glenara Lakes.
Pastoral Carer plays an integral role in our Catholic health and aged care facilities – a role that lies at the heart of an holistic approach to healing which encompasses the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Through prayer, reflection, a gentle compassionate presence or a shared silence, the Pastoral Carer becomes a face of human comfort and healing.
The role will develop, implement and coordinate Pastoral Care services to the older person and their supports in a manner that respects the dignity, spiritual integrity, emotional well-being and confidentiality of each individual and which are congruent with the philosophy of Catholic health care.
What you’ll need:
Reporting to the Facility Manager, the Pastoral Carer (Chaplain) will promote excellence in pastoral care service delivery, work collaboratively with visiting clergy of all denominations, co-ordinate clergy visitation for older persons as required, design/conduct and assist prayer, celebratory, memorial and funeral services and maintain confidentiality regarding resident personal information. A strong faith based approach to care and communication will be essential for the candidate; to ensure that the SCC values of integrity, compassion and respect are promoted for all residents.
Southern Cross Care Pastoral carer(Chaplain) will:
- Provide spiritual and emotional support to residents, families and staff
- Offer a sensitive, caring presence
- Be in touch with resident’s personal journey
- Accompany residents as they tell and reflect on their story, and
- Provide one to one support.
The Person
The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively with the older person to facilitate the provision of the best care, assist and support. A strong faith base will be required to enable knowledge and skill to deliver the requirements of the role.
