A fast-growing, technology-driven financial services organisation is seeking a Head of Software Engineering to lead and scale its global engineering function. This role is responsible for driving engineering excellence across a distributed team spanning Australia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, while partnering closely with product, data, and executive leadership to deliver secure, high-performance platforms at scale.
This is a strategic leadership role suited to an experienced engineering leader who thrives in regulated, high-availability environments and has successfully led multi-region teams through growth and change. You'll have the technical experience and knowledge to gain respect from the technical team and the emotional intelligence, empathy and vision to work closely with the CTO to meet ambitious objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Own the overall engineering strategy, delivery, and performance across a global team of ~30 engineers
* Lead, mentor, and develop Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders
* Drive best practices in software architecture, SDLC, DevOps, security, and reliability
* Partner closely with Product and Leadership to align technology delivery with commercial objectives
* Manage distributed teams across multiple time zones, fostering strong culture and collaboration
* Oversee resource planning, hiring, and succession planning as the business scales
* Ensure platforms meet high standards for performance, resilience, and regulatory compliance
What We're Looking For
* Proven experience as a Head of Engineering / Engineering Director / Senior Engineering Manager
* Strong background leading globally distributed engineering teams
* Experience in financial services, fintech, trading platforms, or other high-availability systems
* Deep understanding of modern backend systems, cloud-native architectures, and DevOps practices
* Track record of scaling teams, improving delivery velocity, and uplifting engineering maturity
* Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at executive level
* Comfortable balancing strategic leadership with pragmatic decision-making
