Hays Senior Finance North Queensland is proud to partner with a State Government organisation committed to strengthening Queensland's agricultural sector. Their work spans market supply chain improvements, risk management, resilience building, and regional assistance delivery. Through research, development, and extension, they help agricultural businesses thrive across the state. We are currently assisting in the recruitment of a PO3/PO4 Agricultural Accountant to join their Cairns-based team, supporting the Far North Queensland banana, sugar, and grains industries.
Your new role
Join the Rural Economic Development team and apply your financial expertise to projects that improve profitability and sustainability in Queensland agriculture. This role combines accounting and economic analysis to evaluate emerging technologies and management practices in sugarcane and other cropping systems. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Leading projects that deliver high-quality financial and economic evaluations to improve profitability and sustainability.
* Building and maintaining collaborative relationships within multi-disciplinary teams, including landholders, industry organisations, colleagues, universities, and other government agencies.
* Developing financial and bio-economic models and applying analysis techniques to assess agricultural production, resource management initiatives, and policy impacts (e.g., gross margin analysis, cost-benefit analysis, budgeting).
* Analysing project data using appropriate methodologies to produce case studies, reports, and recommendations.
* Managing projects and workflow priorities independently to ensure timely and effective delivery.
This is a temporary full-time position based in Cairns until June 2026, with the potential for extension.
What you'll need to succeed
We're seeking candidates with a Bachelor of Business, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or Economics. Strong communication skills are essential to engage with clients and present information clearly. Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams is highly valued.
Mandatory requirements:
* A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business, or agribusiness.
* A genuine interest in supporting the agricultural sector; applied experience in agriculture will be highly regarded.
* A valid Queensland driver's licence.
