The Role
The South Australia Metro Editor is a senior editorial position responsible for leading the multiplatform output of ABC News in Adelaide. You will have editorial accountability for digital, audio and video journalism, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, impartiality and audience relevance, including during breaking news and emergency events, multiplatform output of ABC News in South Australia. As a key member of the senior leadership group, you will lead the Adelaide newsroom, setting culture, driving original journalism and building editorial capability across teams. You will foster strong collaboration with regional teams, Local Radio and network newsrooms, manage resources and budgets, and lead change initiatives, including new technologies and workflows. The role plays a critical part in ensuring South Australian storytelling reflects the diversity, complexity and experiences of the communities we serve.
The Job
* Exercise editorial control to ensure accuracy, impartiality and high-quality content across all SA platforms, including digital, radio and TV.
* Lead SA breaking news coverage and support Emergency Broadcasting for regional South Australia.
* Drive culture, performance, training and professional development for Adelaide News teams, fostering original and specialist journalism.
* Develop and implement content strategies aligned with ABC News directions and emerging audience needs.
* Build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders across Local Radio, regional teams and network newsrooms.
* Oversee budgets, resource allocation and workforce planning to ensure efficient, high-impact output.
* Coordinate change initiatives including new technologies and workflows.
* Engage with diverse communities across SA to source stories that reflect the cultural, geographic and socio-economic diversity of Australia
About You
You are a senior editorial leader with a passion for innovative, impactful journalism.
You'll have:
* Extensive experience in broadcast and digital journalism, with deep knowledge of multiplatform news production.
* Strong strategic, organisational and financial management capability.
* Demonstrated excellence in leading high-performing editorial teams.
* The ability to develop newsroom strategy, content formats and maintain editorial standards. Outstanding communication skills and the ability to build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.
