About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Control Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership, governance and oversight across engineering projects for our key client, SA Water. In this role, you will act as a trusted technical authority, ensuring high-quality engineering outcomes while supporting delivery teams, mentoring engineers and strengthening long-term client relationships.
You will play a critical role in shaping technical direction, supporting program delivery and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership and governance across control systems engineering projects.
* Support program delivery through technical oversight, risk management and stakeholder engagement.
* Provide expert advice to project teams and clients to ensure successful delivery outcomes.
* Assist with cost estimation, technical input and proposal development for new opportunities.
* Mentor and support engineers, identifying capability development and training needs.
* Build strong, trusted relationships with SA Water and internal stakeholders.
* Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, tools and standards.
* Promote a strong safety culture and inclusive, collaborative team environment.
About You
You are a highly experienced control systems professional with strong leadership capability and deep technical expertise. You are confident working with senior stakeholders and enjoy guiding teams to deliver complex infrastructure outcomes.
You will ideally have:
* A bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
* CPEng certification or willingness to pursue.
* Strong experience in the water and wastewater sector, with SA Water experience highly regarded.
* More than 10 years of control systems engineering experience.
* Hands-on expertise across PLC, SCADA, RTU and control system architectures.
* Experience developing Functional Design Specifications and supporting FAT and SAT activities.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and mentor others.
* A proactive mindset with a focus on quality, safety and continuous improvement.
