Building Fire Safety Committee Member (Accredited Building Surveyor)
Adelaide Plains Council is seeking expressions of interest for an Accredited Building Surveyor to be appointed as a Member on Council's Building Fire Safety Committee. The appointment will be for a 2 year term.
The Building Fire Safety Committee ("the Committee") is an "appropriate authority" under section 157 of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure 2016 (PDI) Act, charged with inspecting existing buildings and ensuring they maintain adequate fire safety standards. Responsibilities include developing inspection policies, scrutinising deficient fire safety systems and issuing statutory Notices of Fire Safety Defect (section 157(3)) and overseeing rectification actions. The Committee meets at least three (3) times annually, with the date and time set depending on the availability of members.
As a Member of the Committee, you will:
* Perform building inspections to assess fire safety compliance;
* Advise the Committee on inspection outcomes and risk prioritisation;
* Prepare technical reports and, where necessary, issue Notices under section 157;
* Collaborate with Council officers, the CFS/MFS representatives, and technical experts.
The successful applicant will have:
* Accreditation is Building Surveying (Level 1 or equivalent) mandatory;
* Demonstrated experience conducting fire safety inspections of existing buildings;
* Strong technical expertise across detection, containment, evacuation and suppression systems;
* Proficiency in preparing statutory documents and formal notices;
* Knowledge of the PDI Act, Regulations, and committee protocols;
* Excellent communication skills and capable of negotiating and liaising with stakeholders;
* Ability to commit to periodic meetings and responsive inspections when required.
