The opportunity
Our Finance Expenditure team are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Finance professional to join their team as Payroll & Utilities Specialist.
With a dispersed workforce of over 600 employees, and 60 business units, it’s a unique role giving you broad exposure across a myriad of sectors. Your work days will be varied, with no two days the same – your primary purpose will be to provide a high level of professional service to Council with respect to undertaking timely and accurate payment of all employee salaries/wages, entitlements, and associated deductions in accordance with the Local Government Award, PSC Enterprise Agreement, employment contracts and offers.
The utilities component of this role will incorporate the financial transactions, data management, and the facilitation of payment for Council’s utility providers.
This is a permanent opportunity – working full-time 35 hours / week + access to a flexible working arrangement
Base Salary Range: $70,419 to $82,774 pa based on 35 hours / week + 11.5% superannuation+ $2,312 retention allowance
You will be working from PSC Administration Building, Raymond Terrace

Process payroll information as directed by the Team Leader
Assist in the maintenance of Council’s Payroll System (Authority) in accordance with Council processes and procedures
Positive stakeholder engagement in the resolution of service issues
Work alongside the Team Leader and act as the point of contract for employees to resolve or escalate payroll queries
Please Note: For the purpose of recruitment, the title of Payroll Officer has been used to reflect the equivalent industry title. Internally the official title of this position is Payroll & Utilities Specialist.

A Diploma in a relevant field and/or several years of experience
An understanding of payroll and utility systems and related legislation
Demonstrated investigative and analytical skills to work with complex pay anomalies
Experience in conducting pay calculations for special work agreements and an ability to instigate problem resolutions to meet business payroll/utility needs.
Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with employees at all levels about their pay calculations and entitlements
