The Role
As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will work with students with disabilities and additional learning needs.
You will also ideally be friendly, cohesive, student-focused and team-spirited.
Suitable applicants will require good communication skills and work cohesively or individually as required.
Suitable applicants will perform tasks that require judgement in achieving clearly defined outcomes determined by the teacher.
Through previous experience, you will ideally demonstrate the delivery of planned education programmes and contribute in the evaluation process for special education.
You will possess good written and oral communication skills which will help assist teachers and therapists when assisting students.
Qualifications and Experience
Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programmes, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programmes, including special education and therapy programmes where these have been implemented.
Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective programmes to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programmes, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and / or physiotherapy programmes.
Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
Eligibility
To work with us, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and consent to a and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
