Occupational Health Specialist
Expert advice and support are required to ensure the health, wellbeing, and safety of staff across NSW Ambulance.
Key responsibilities include assessing medical conditions affecting employment and fitness for duty, providing expert advice on safe work practices, and developing policy frameworks to protect the workforce.
* Assess medical conditions affecting employment and fitness for duty, providing recommendations on reasonable adjustments and work modifications.
* Develop and implement policy frameworks to ensure a safe working environment, including risk assessments, hazard control, and training programs.
* Provide expert advice to managers and supervisors on occupational health matters, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and NSW Health policy.
This role requires a Medical Practitioner registered or eligible for registration with AHPRA, with Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational & Environmental Medicine (AFOEM), Public Health Medicine (AFPHM), Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), or other specialist recognition under the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in occupational health assessments, including fitness and capacity for work, and strong skills in identifying, assessing, prioritising, and controlling health and safety risks.
A proven ability to provide expert medical evidence and advice at an executive level is essential, as well as a high level of clinical skill in assessing fitness for duty and adapting practice to meet evolving workforce needs.
Experience in consulting to mitigate occupational health risks and balancing service delivery, resource use, and broader organisational objectives is also highly desirable.
The successful candidate will be committed to ongoing professional development and continuing medical education, with a focus on contemporary, evidence-based practice.
They will also be able to bring their knowledge of diversity and inclusion principles into practice, applying them to workplace arrangements and HR policies.
