The Head of Faculty - Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) will report directly to the Director of Teaching and Learning. This role is responsible for planning and overseeing the development, innovation and excellence in curriculum and its delivery. The Head of Science will implement the College Model for Teaching and Learning and demonstrate a high level of dedication to quality teaching and learning practices across all age groups at the College.
The ideal candidate will support the College Christian ethos as well as the vision and academic goals for the College as outlined in the Strategic Plan. They will work within the school improvement framework based on the principles defined in the National School Improvement Tool and assist in executing the educational goals as outlined in the Strategic Plan. This is an integral part of the Riverside Teaching & Learning Framework that provides a quality Christian education.
The Head of Faculty (HASS) will work with teaching teams to develop and improve curriculum and pedagogy.
* Lead, co-create, reflect, provide feedback, review, and improve the College curriculum package.
* Improve literacy and numeracy practices.
* Ensure that teaching teams adhere to the QCAA expectations for P-12 curriculum.
* Work with all teachers and College leaders to promote and maintain high academic standards.
* Work with teachers to ensure consistency within teaching teams and across year levels in the College curriculum package, moderation, and data analysis.
* Develop a strong data driven culture that reflects the College evidence-based practices model.
* Lead teaching teams in college improvement practices.
* Compile the assessment timeline and assess key stressors prior to implementation.
* Attend Head of Faculty and curriculum leaders' meetings.
* Conduct faculty meetings.
* Follow the College policies and procedures in relation to all curriculum matters and support the Director of Teaching and Learning to create and collaborate on relevant policies and procedures.
* Improve teaching and learning practices reflecting the College Model for Teaching and Learning and the College strategic goals.
* Provide support to teachers during periods of new pedagogical endeavours.
* Know, seek, and encourage others to use a range of teaching strategies, resources and technologies that support students in their learning.
* Keep abreast of challenges in subject specific teaching strategies and resources.
Develop and Maintain Effective Relationships
Develop and maintaining effective positive relationships with all College staff, leadership, students and parent/carer/home tutors and other stakeholders.
* Work effectively and collegially as a member of the College team.
* Communicate effectively and professionally with leaders, colleagues, students, parents, home tutors and other stakeholders.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders to arrange excursions, incursions, competitions, and experiences for students.
* Maintain confidentiality in relation to all matters at the College and when necessary, inform your direct line manager of any potential breach in confidentiality.
Effective and Efficient Administration of Faculty
* Complete all administration tasks according to the specified deadlines and in accordance with College policy and procedures.
* Complete all safety checks and follow all safety requirements in accordance with College policy and procedures.
* Encourage all students to understand, and follow the College values.
* Promote cross-curricular developments where appropriate.
* Make recommendations for the purchasing of resources and manage allocated budgets.
* Assist with professional development days and activities.
* Assist with parent nights where the focus in on promoting teaching and learning.
* Assist with marketing opportunities as they pertain to promoting your subjects to students, parents, prospective families, and the community.
* Organise internal and external competitions, events, and excursions/incursions.
Teacher Professional Development
* Create and implement faculty goals that align with the College strategic goals.
* Supervise the induction of all new staff and beginning teachings within the faculty.
* Lead teachers in professional learning that meets the needs of the Secondary Years of Schooling in relation to the whole college curriculum package, pedagogy, literacy and numeracy, moderation and reporting.
* Support teachers in areas of professional growth as part of the College Teacher Development Program.
* Support the Director of Teaching and Learning in all Whole College professional developments when requested.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
* Hold Bachelor of Secondary Education or higher
* Hold a current Queensland teacher registration
* Subject specialisation in Humanities and Social Sciences (desirable)
* Demonstrated skills to plan and implement evidence based (including data driven evidence based) improvement strategies including the ongoing shaping and reviewing of the vision for effective teaching and learning within the College.
* Personal capacities to effectively lead staff including the ability to enhance staff wellbeing, effectively use change management strategies, and engage in collaborative reflection, learning and action.
* Demonstrated qualities of confidence, flexibility, teamwork, resilience, innovation and perseverance to grow the capacity of an effective learning community will also be expected. This will include a personal commitment to lifelong learning and growth.
* Excellent English written and oral skills
* Demonstrated skills to support the co-curricular program of the College.
* Possess strong Christian character, demonstrate active church involvement and support the College Christian values.
