The role of a Tug Deckhand is to work on the deck of a tugboat, assisting in various operations and ensuring the smooth running of the vessel. This position involves working closely with other crew members, following established procedures and guidelines, and contributing to a safe and efficient work environment.


Job Description:

This role requires individuals with a strong interest in deck operations and a willingness to learn and adapt to new situations. As a Tug Deckhand, you will be responsible for performing routine checks and maintenance tasks, handling and securing lines during towage and mooring, inspecting and maintaining equipment, managing stores and deck gear, and using computer-based systems to support maintenance and safety checks.

* Perform routine checks and maintenance tasks on deck equipment and machinery.
* Handle and secure lines during towage, mooring, and general vessel movements.
* Inspect and maintain lines, including splicing and general rope care.
* Manage stores and deck gear, ensuring everything is in good condition and ready to use.
* Use computer-based systems to support maintenance and safety checks.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

* A minimum General Purpose Hand Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or equivalent.
* A valid AMSA Medical that matches your Certificate of Competency.
* Current Provide First Aid and Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificates.
* A genuine interest in deck operations and getting involved in all aspects of towage work.
* Experience handling ropes, lines, or operating winches is highly regarded.
