Primary objective
Co-ordinate and lead the development and implementation of strategies for improving Medication Safety and optimising Quality Use of
Medicines across Primary and Public Health Care (PPHC) facilities.
Context statement
This position is required to lead the PPHC Pharmacy team and provide guidance on medicines management activities to Remote, Urban,
Oral Health and CDC.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Co-ordinate and lead the development of policy, protocol and guideline documents related to the use of medicines.
2. Ensure effective medicines management governance processes operate within PPHC services, including maintenance of the
standard formulary, oversight of non-standard medicines use and business of the PPHC Pharmacy Group.
3. Line management of PPHC pharmacy Team including Corrections Pharmacy and Warehouse Technician.
4. Co-ordinate and lead the application of medicines related National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) standards across
PPHC facilities.
5. Monitor medication incidents and trends and lead related Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) action in collaboration with other
staff.
6. Deliver orientation and education programs for PPHC staff.
7. Advise on the management of contracted pharmacy service providers to ensure contracted services are delivered appropriately,
efficiently and in a cost – effective manner.
8. Provide expert advice and guidance on relevant Northern Territory (NT) and Commonwealth legislation.
9. Provide advice and support, clinical advice, ordering, delivery, transport/logistic etc. for Vaccination roll out.
10. Provide teaching at a tertiary level as required and assist in coordination of pharmacy related research activity.
11. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
12. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or equivalent qualification in Pharmacy and registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
2. A minimum of 3 years contemporary clinical pharmacy experience, preferably in hospital or Aboriginal Health Services and ability
to maintain currency of clinical knowledge.
3. Demonstrated understanding of the National Safety and Quality Health Standards (NSQHS) standards and accreditation processes.
4. Previous experience in undertaking CQI activities and managing change in the clinical environment.
5. Excellent negotiation and communication skills (both written and oral) and ability to work as part of multi-disciplinary team.
6. Extensive experience in the provision of continuing education and support to healthcare staff.
7. Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse culture.
8. Hold a current NT (manual) driver's licence or the ability to obtain, willingness and ability to travel by light plane or 4WD and reside
in remote communities for up to a week's duration.
