Overview
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Queensland Section offers a dental service through the Mobile Dental Unit (MDU) to assist rural and remote Queenslanders with access to dental care. The MDU includes two state‐of‐the‐art dental surgeries, serves up to 70 patients per week, provides a range of services from preventive care to extraction, and houses an onboard orthopantomogram (OPG) unit. The aim is to address the immediate need for dental care in communities across Queensland and improve overall health through a regular ongoing service.
Role
The position is for a Principal Dentist who will lead the MDU. The role is permanent and can be filled full‐time or part‐time as part of a job‐share arrangement. It involves a rotation of clinical work combined with administrative and leadership duties.
Responsibilities
* Conduct clinical examinations, diagnose issues, develop treatment plans, deliver treatments, educate patients about oral health, maintain comprehensive clinical records, and provide post‐treatment support.
* Provide support and guidance to Dentists, Dental Assistants, and the MDU Coordinator.
* Manage workforce planning and recruitment of Dentists and Dental Assistants.
* Engage with clinical governance processes and ensure compliance with RFDS clinical policies and procedures.
* Develop and monitor the annual budget for the RFDS Oral Health Service.
* Participate in and organise staff training activities related to clinical service delivery.
* Collaborate with team members to improve service delivery, service reporting, research, and service expansion.
Qualifications
* Registration with AHPRA as a Dentist.
* Four years post‐graduate experience in general dentistry.
* Well‐developed management skills, including leadership and decision‐making.
* Demonstrated ability to implement change.
* Advanced knowledge of best practices within a dental clinic.
* Current Queensland Health radiography licence.
* Experience in a rural and remote practice.
* Ability to handle challenging operational situations calmly and rationally.
* Proven clinical skills in managing a broad range of oral health issues.
* Experience using a clinical patient record system (RFDS uses Titanium).
* Evidence of annual certification in Basic Life Support and a current First Aid Certificate (AED) or willingness to obtain one prior to commencement.

Additional Requirements
Pre‐employment medical assessment, a valid Queensland driver's licence, and the ability to drive a work vehicle when required are mandatory. The role also requires completion of the RFDS credentialing process and evidence of vaccination against vaccine‐preventable diseases.
