We are seeking a practical and detail-focused Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer, with strong design capabilities in the areas of outdoor metal cabinet and enclosure designs, electrical switchboard wiring layout and cabinet hardware integration.
Experience in electrical switchboard design (or similar), with an emphasis on compliance with Australian and International safety, environmental and wiring standards, is preferred.
The role includes:
1. Analyse current product designs and provide improvements in manufacturability, cost, safety, and functionality, in conjunction with customers and internal design teams.
2. Liaise with customers to ensure requirements for new products are fulfilled and approval is received.
3. Collaborate closely with electrical design teams, production, customers and suppliers to ensure seamless integration and timely release of new products and product changes to production.
4. Carry out supportive tasks as allocated by the Product Development Manager, including maintaining the product database, managing Engineering Change/ Release Notes, and managing and reviewing design documentation for release to production.
5. Ensure that requested changes to existing products are adequately documented and implemented in accordance with company and customer procedures.
6. Write specifications for components and recommend materials for purchasing.
7. Prepare user documentation, including technical descriptions and drawings for manuals.
8. Provide technical support for the maintenance of existing products and resolve factory production/ quality issues, including feedback to the various teams for lessons learned.
9. Provide realistic estimates for tasks and ensure tasks are completed as scheduled in the project plan.
10. Fabricate/ assemble in house test equipment and product prototypes and produce functional and environmental test reports.
11. Order and track orders of mechanical components and other materials.
* Travel to customer and supplier sites as required.
What we are looking for:
* Qualifications to degree or diploma level (minimum), mechanical engineering or mechatronic engineering (or similar) related discipline.
* Five years hands on experience in design/ manufacturing of mechanical equipment, including experience with designs of electrical/ electronic products, with a track record of personally delivering successful solutions.
* Working knowledge of materials, finishing processes and fabrication/ assembly processes.
* Experience with AutoCAD and Solidworks 3D design for metal fabrication is required. Wiring diagram and circuit diagram experience in AutoCAD/ Solidworks is preferred.
* Experience with design, assembly and testing of prototypes.
* Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS3000 quality/ safety standards.
* Experience working in a "Design for manufacturing" environment.
* Excellent attention to detail is a requirement, along with accuracy, and self-motivation to deliver work to the highest standards.
* Experience with Microsoft Office based products.
* Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
