As we continue to grow our business and team, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Geologist to join our team on a Fulltime basis. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in our journey to becoming a leading ASX gold-copper producer and contribute to our future success.
About Telfer Operations
Telfer is a gold-copper mine located in the Paterson Province of the East Pilbara region of Western Australia. It includes both open-pit and underground mining operations, as well as the operation of Australia\'s third-largest gold-copper processing facility. Since beginning gold production in 1975, Telfer has produced more than 15Moz of gold to date.
Our Telfer operations offer a fly-in fly-out work arrangement, providing our workforce with a healthy work-life balance. Onsite, we offer a broad range of recreational activities, including a recently refurbished gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room, and both dry and wet mess facilities.
In addition to Telfer, Greatland owns 100% of the Havieron gold-copper, a world class development project with a multi-decade mine life, located 45km west of Telfer that will utilise the existing Telfer infrastructure to process Havieron ore, together with a significant exploration portfolio in the region surrounding Telfer.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Open Pit Mine Geologist to join our team at Telfer. In this critical role, you will support the planning and operational aspects of open-pit mining operations. You will apply advanced geological expertise to ensure the efficient extraction of mineral resources, while prioritising safety, environmental compliance, and effective resource management.
Please note: This role is FIFO from Perth, 8 days on, 6 days off
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and update geological models, perform resource estimation, and integrate data into mine planning software for pit optimization.
- Oversee grade control processes, assess ore and waste boundaries, and coordinate with mining teams to minimise dilution and improve ore recovery.
- Reconcile geological data, perform quality checks, and prepare clear reports to ensure consistency across models and datasets.
- Provide geological input to short- and long-term mine planning, working closely with the engineering team to optimise pit layouts.
- Analyse geological and geophysical data, recommend changes to models, and interpret field observations.
- Lead and mentor a team of geologists, promote a collaborative culture, and ensure adherence to safety and environmental standards.
- Collaborate with mine operations, safety, engineering, and environmental teams to resolve geological challenges.
- Prepare technical reports, maintain accurate geological records, and participate in audits and feasibility studies.
About You
We are searching for a candidate who thrives in a dynamic environment, is proactive in driving continuous improvement, and brings a strong commitment to both operational excellence and professional development.
- 5-10 years of experience in open-pit mining geology, with significant hands-on experience in grade control, resource estimation, and mine planning.
- Bachelor\'s degree in Geology or a related field.
- Proficiency in geological modelling software (e.g., Vulcan, Datamine, Leapfrog).
- Strong knowledge of geological mapping, systems and processes
- Proven experience with RC Grade control management and design.
- Familiarity with mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental compliance.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities
