Job Overview
The Vice President of Purchasing is responsible for the strategic leadership and vision of the procurement and purchasing function, ensuring alignment with the company's overall strategic plans and business goals. This role oversees the development and implementation of innovative procurement strategies that drive operational excellence, cost efficiency, and risk mitigation. This role will also oversee complex financial pricing and margin structures from acquisition cost. Additionally, the Vice President will take a leadership role in various estimating practices, share their knowledge of building codes and industry standards, collaborate with multiple internal and external partners, and successfully coach junior estimators.
What You'll Do
* Provides strategic leadership and oversight for the implementation of the new ERP system as it relates to inventory and purchasing modules, and continue to develop the processes and tools required.
* Develops and executes comprehensive procurement strategies that align with the company's long-term goals and objectives. Leads the department requirements and vision to negotiate agreements such as RFP's, RFQ's, and RFI's.
* Leads cross-functional teams to drive procurement initiatives that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve supplier relationships.
* Lead a team of 5 to 7 direct reports with an overall team of approximately 20 employees
* Provides strategic guidance to senior leadership on procurement & purchasing trends, risks, and opportunities.
* Build new supply partnerships and relationships and leverage long-standing ones, while ensuring continuous improvement of financial and product performance from existing suppliers.
* Oversees the negotiation of high-value contracts and ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
* Champions the change and adoption of advanced procurement technologies and digital solutions to streamline processes and improve data-driven decision-making.
* Oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates for residential construction projects.
* Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and new construction technologies to provide strategic guidance.
* Foster collaboration with project managers, architects, engineers and other stakeholders to ensure feasibility and alignment on project scope and costs.
* Review and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, scopes of work and specifications to ensure compliance and strategic alignment.
What You Bring
* 15+ years of progressive procurement/purchasing experience, preferably in homebuilding
* 10+ years in a senior leadership role, proven track record of leading large-scale procurement transformations and driving significant cost savings.
* Solid understanding and knowledge of procurement, estimating, contract management, including accounts payable practices and legal requirements
* Expertise in negotiations and contracting, including complex terms and conditions, that manages corporate risk
* Proven ability to analyze data from various sources and make sound recommendations.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct, coach, develop, and manage team members
* Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization abilities.
* Proficiency in estimating software, as well as strong analytical and mathematical skills
* A master's degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred. A business degree is required.
* Continuous professional development and certifications in procurement or supply chain management are highly desirable.
