About The Opportunity
Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, part of the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD), is seeking a dedicated and experienced Staff Specialist in Geriatric Medicine to join our dynamic team. This is a unique prospect to provide high-quality, patient-centred care in a supportive and collaborative setting.
As a Staff Specialist, you will play a key role in delivering comprehensive, evidence-based medical services while contributing to the education and supervision of junior medical staff. You will be instrumental in shaping clinical practices, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and supporting the hospital's commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery.
About You
You are a passionate and skilled physician with:
Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Physician in Geriatric Medicine (applications considered from applicants in their final 6 months of training approaching fellowship and specialist registration)
Recent clinical experience in Geriatric Medicine, ideally within a comparable service setting
A strong commitment to collaborative, multidisciplinary care and the ability to lead and inspire a clinical team
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and proficiency in using clinical information systems
A dedication to teaching, research, and continuous improvement, with a focus on delivering protected, high-quality care
Availability to participate in the on-call roster and respond on-site as required
Alignment with the NSW Health CORE values—Collaboration, Openness, Respect, and Empowerment—and a commitment to the goals and strategies of MLHD

Selection Criteria
Holds unconditional specialist registration with Australian Health Practitioners Registration Authority (AHPRA), or holds general registration with AHPRA in the final 6 months of training approaching fellowship and specialist registration
Evidence of Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, specialising in Geriatric Medicine or an Advanced Trainee in the final 6 months of training approaching fellowship and/or proof of recognition as a specialist by the Specialists Recognition Advisory Committee
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of contemporary evidence-based best practice in Geriatric Medicine and competence in skills relevant to Australian rural hospital practice
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with medical and other colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary health care team and communicate effectively with patients and colleagues
Commitment to teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate level
Understanding of and commitment to involvement in quality improvement and research programs, and ability to work in a computerised environment
Commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education / continuing professional development
Commitment to behaviours which align to the NSW Health CORE values and MLHD Values, goals and strategies
