The Role – Associate (Contract) Instructional Designer
We are seeking experienced Senior Instructional Designers to join us as Associates on a contract basis, designing high-quality, applied learning solutions for government clients.
This is a project-based associate role, with a strong emphasis on analysis, design and development. Engagements will vary depending on project needs and may be delivered independently or as part of a broader design team.
You will design learning architectures, programs and products that are:
* Aligned to real work and operational context
* Accurate to policy, legislation and procedures
* Structured for clarity, flow and usability
* Focused on application and performance outcomes.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Design end-to-end learning programs, pathways and products (blended and digital)
* Analyse roles, tasks and capability requirements to inform learning design
* Translate complex policy, procedural and technical content into structured, learner-centred solutions
* Work closely with SMEs and stakeholders to co-design accurate and fit-for-purpose content
* Develop learning artefacts including learner materials and digital content
* Design assessment approaches aligned to performance and application
* Sequence learning into coherent pathways as well as standalone modules
* Embed scenarios, activities and practice opportunities grounded in real work
* Align learning to capability frameworks and organisational outcomes
* Contribute to evaluation approaches that link learning to observable performance.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
* Strong experience in instructional design and learning development
* Demonstrated ability to design structured, applied learning solutions
* Sound understanding of adult learning principles and evidence-based design
* Experience analysing complex environments and translating them into learning design
* Ability to work with SMEs to shape and validate content
* Excellent written communication skills suited to government audiences.
Highly Regarded
* Experience working with or within APS / federal government
* Experience designing in regulatory, compliance or policy-driven environments
* Experience designing blended learning (eLearning, microlearning, performance support)
* Experience developing assessments linked to performance outcomes
* Familiarity with tools such as Articulate or similar platforms
* AGSVA Security Clearance (Baseline or above), or ability to obtain.
