Offer description

The Employer

Our client operates a large mixed farming enterprise in the New Norcia region of Western Australia, spanning 12,000 hectares. This progressive and well-maintained mixed farming operation manages an annual cereal cropping program that covers over 5,000 hectares, led by a dedicated cropping team. This program complements their sheep flock, which consists of 7,000 Merino ewes. The Merino enterprise utilises elite genetics, artificial insemination, and a modern management approach to achieve a productive dual-purpose model. Their goal is to raise larger, heavier-cutting ewes that produce profitable lambs while also improving wool quality.

The operation benefits from outstanding infrastructure, including multiple modern sheep yards, well-equipped shearing sheds, excellent water systems, and efficient laneway networks.

Our clients take pride in their high staff retention rate and maintain an inclusive and fair work environment. The success of the business depends significantly on fostering a productive and cohesive team.

The Role

Our clients are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Livestock Manager with a strong passion for intensive sheep breeding to join their team. In this pivotal role, you will leverage innovation and technology, and monitor and enhance flock performance. Reporting directly to the General Manager and collaborating with the farm team, you will be instrumental in driving the success of the operation.

As the Livestock Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of flock management. This includes monitoring the health and well-being of the sheep, nutrition and feeding requirements and overseeing all engagement of external contractors. You will also be responsible for all record-keeping.

We are looking for someone who is not only competent but also genuinely passionate and driven about advancing sheep breeding practices to achieve excellence in flock management to complement the farm business.

You will be well supported in this role if you are looking to start your career at this level, as our clients strongly believe in staff development.

The Offer

The successful applicant will receive a generous salary along with an excellent 3-bedroom home featuring hardwood floors and reverse cycle air conditioning. The property includes a securely fenced yard complete with a double carport and shed. All utilities are covered, including supplies of beef and lamb, as well as a dog food allowance. Additionally, a work vehicle will be provided for work-related purposes.

The farm is located approximately 1.5 hours from Perth, 15 km southeast of New Norcia, and 45 km north of Bindoon. It would be ideal for a family, as a school bus services the local primary school.

Major service centres nearby include Moora, Wongan Hills, and Bindoon, all offering essential banking, medical services, supermarkets, and other amenities.
