Operating from within Water Resource Management, North Region, you will be leading the delivery of compliance and measurement related functions that contribute to achieving sustainable management and use of the Region's water resources, consistent with Departmental frameworks, policies, and priorities, in partnership with stakeholders.
Role Overview
The role of Principal Water Officer provides direction, guidance, and leadership to others to ensure effective delivery of the department's regulatory strategy and responsibilities—applying provisions of the Water Act 2000 and Planning Act 2016 to achieve consistent and effective regulatory outcomes. This opportunity is part of a job share arrangement, capped at 0.4 FTE (2-days per week).
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide high-level advice to the Manager - Compliance and the Regional Management Team on regulatory policy application and regional implementation.
2. Lead a team of Senior Water Officers in managing regional compliance and measurement activities, including planning and implementing monitoring programs.
3. Prepare submissions and briefing notes, and contribute to the development of work practices and guidelines.
4. Represent the department in regional forums and collaborate with the Manager - Compliance to manage finances and human resources effectively.
5. Ensure high standards of Work, Health & Safety, and promote ethical conduct among staff.
