About the Department of Housing and Public Works
The Department of Housing and Public Works plays a pivotal role in building and maintaining government-owned assets across Queensland, including schools, social housing, police stations, correctional facilities, and health facilities.
About the Role
This position will support the department's ambition to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry by providing exceptional administrative support.
Duties and Skills Involved
* Project Delivery
o Planning and delivering projects through efficient supervision and development of office staff, field staff, and subcontractors, and effective management of resources such as plant and equipment, depots, and motor vehicles.
* Quality Management
o Monitoring and reviewing project standards using effective work order management techniques that monitor and report on project delivery, expenditure, and compliance with industry best practice and agreed cost and time parameters.
* Regional Resource Management
o Managing regional resources to deliver construction, maintenance, and upgrade projects while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and practices.
* Supervisory Services
o Providing high-level supervisory services for the delivery of construction, maintenance, and upgrade work undertaken by the department.
* Contract Supervision
o Providing operational contract supervisory services for construction and engineering contracts on major and complex projects.
* Clients Relationship
o Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients through effective communication, negotiation, and achievement of program outcomes that meet client expectations.
* Workplace Health and Safety
o Maintaining a healthy and safe work environment, ensuring compliance with current human resource practices and principles, including employment equity, anti-discrimination, and workplace health and safety.
* Business Development
o Promoting department products and services to existing and prospective clients through regular meetings and established forums, and identifying opportunities for new business services based on emerging trends in asset management.
* Staff Performance Management
o Proactively managing the work performance and personal conduct of staff members.
Required Skills and Experience
* A valid Workplace Health and Safety General Safety Induction Card.
* A construction industry-related trade qualification is highly desirable but not mandatory.
