About the role
The DER Program Delivery team is responsible for implementing a range of market reforms related to integrating distributed energy resources (DER) and demand side response initiatives into the NEM, including projects arising from the Energy Security Board (ESB) Post Market Design Final Advice to Energy Ministers and the Consumer Energy Resources (CER) Taskforce.
The team supports and delivers these market reforms and improvements to critical systems and markets efficiently, cooperatively and cost-effectively.
The Operations Transformation & Reform department has a pivotal role to drive forward the strategic transformation of operational capabilities to ensure readiness for evolving systems and markets.
The energy industry is transitioning to an eco-system of grid scale, distributed energy providers and consumers, looking to offer services to each other or to AEMO to operate a sustainable energy system that provides affordable, safe and reliable energy.
You will participate in developing and executing DER projects through the management of business requirements, scope, costs, and resources.
The role will also assist in analysing complex problems and changes to regulatory instruments, to identify technical issues and areas of impacts to business systems and processes for AEMO and market participants in the electricity operations.
The role may also assist in projects related to updating and maintaining a register of DER assets held by AEMO.
What you will be doing
Work collaboratively with other AEMO teams and industry working groups in the analysis of complex issues and development of recommendations to improve the electricity market rules, procedures, and business processes in relation to the integration of DER.
Support project lead(s) to prepare materials to consult with market participants, regulators, policy makers and internally within AEMO on changes and improvements to electricity market rules, procedures, and business processes.
Liaise with AEMO operational teams on the analysis of issues, identification of business and system requirements, and the development of solutions and/or recommendations.
Cultivate productive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Assist with updating and maintaining a register of DER assets held by AEMO to support complementary activities in the team.
What you will bring to the role
Tertiary and/or post graduate qualifications in an appropriate discipline engineering, mathematics, economics, law, commerce, finance, arts) or relevant industry experience.
Experience in the energy or related industry relevant to the development and operation of regulated markets strongly preferred.
Good analytical skills including the interpretation and application of business processes and systems.
An understanding of energy industry regulatory frameworks, policies, and procedures is desirable.
Some coding skills and experience in developing data-driven analytical insights particularly in relation to DER would be highly regarded.
